About Currier House Dormitory
This Harvard dormitory is conveniently located on the corner of Garden
and Linnaean Streets—a fifteen-minute walk
from most classrooms—and is used exclusively for summer program participants. Each
participant is assigned a single room, and shares
a bathroom. While housing facilities are comfortable, they are also quite spartan.
Linens and daily housekeeping are provided.
Amenities of Currier
House include:
- Room rate is fraction of the cost of local hotels
- Non-smoking facility
- Close to the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Harvard yard, shops,
and restaurants
- Air-conditioned private rooms with shared bath
- Rooms are furnished with a bed, bureau, desk, and chair
- Bed linens, towels, and soap are provided (If you decide to bring extra towels,
please do not bring white towels)
- Daily housekeeping services
- Private phone in each
room
- Alarm-clock and desk lamp are provided
- Coin-operated laundry facilities (one ironing board and iron are
provided in each laundry room)
- Complimentary breakfast each morning
- Outdoor courtyards and several lounge area
Dormitory Regulations
While at Currier, please do not attach anything to the walls or furniture.
Out of courtesy to others, we ask that you respect "quiet hours" after
11:00 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Overnight guests are
not permitted to stay at Currier without permission from the Resident
Manager. For security reasons, the front door is locked. Please carry
your keys with you at all times, and DO NOT let people whom you do
not know into the building. If you hear the fire alarm, please exit
the
building quickly.
Keys
You will be given a swipe-card which will open the
front doors and your room.
Check In/Check Out
Please note the specific check in and check out times for your program and plan your travel accordingly.
Allow at least one hour to get to Currier House if you are coming from
the airport or train station.
Rooms are held for participants
only; family members may not reside at the dormitory.
Maintenance Requests
Please see the front desk should you have any
questions or concerns
during your stay including:
- air conditioner, lighting
fixtures
- extra towels or other linen
- bathroom plumbing problems
- housekeeping
- lost or broken keys
Note: Please do not contact the
Superintendent. All concerns should go through the front dest.

Kitchen Use
You may use the kitchen/lounge area near your room while you are at
Currier House. If you use the stove, please use the proper cooking
equipment and clean the space after use. Please remove
any food or drinks from the refrigerator before returning home.
Laundry Room
Laundry facilities are available on the fifth floors of Gilbert, Bingham,
and Tuchman Halls. Both washers and dryers require quarters.
Recycling
A recycling/trash room for paper, glass, and aluminum is on the Lower
Main level of each building.
Smoking Regulations
Because of the strict no-smoking law in Cambridge, smoking is not permitted
in university classrooms, corridors, group meeting spaces, bathrooms,
or other public spaces. Smoking during breaks must be done outside
the classroom building, and smoking is not permitted inside the dormitory.

Security
Harvard University cannot assume responsibility for loss or damage to personal property from any cause, and we urge you to be extremely careful about locking your room when you leave. Also, please be sure that both the front door and the inner lobby doors are always securely closed and locked behind you when you enter and leave Currier House.
As in any urban area, you should not take evening walks alone. The University Police offer an evening escort service between 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. For further information about the escort service call 617-495-0400.
Emergency telephones with blue lights above them are strategically located outdoors throughout the campus; the phones are a direct link to the police department. By just picking up the receiver, you are immediately connected with the police dispatcher.
Directions to Currier House
Taxi
The dorm is most easily accessible by cab. The rate for cabs may run anywhere from $35 - $45. Instruct the driver to take you to the corner of Garden Street and Linnaean Street, Cambridge. Please enter the building at 64 Linnaean Street. If the driver is not familiar with the location, instruct him/her to proceed to Harvard Square and follow the set of directions from the South below.
From Points North of Boston
• Take Route 93 South into Boston.
• Take Storrow Drive-Cambridge exit. Follow Storrow Drive keeping to the right (along the Charles River), until the exit marked Harvard Square/Cambridge.
• Take a right and cross over the Charles River. You are now on JFK Street. Proceed straight through three sets of lights.
• At the fourth set of lights you will see a news stand straight ahead. Bear right and continue straight (the Coop should be on your left).
• You will come to a fork in the road—stay left at this fork.
• You will come to a second fork almost immediately—stay to the right (sign says Massachusetts Avenue/Arlington).
• Go straight through the lights, staying on Mass. Avenue. Follow Mass. Ave. until you get to Linnaean Street (the third light).
• Turn left on Linnaean St., and follow it to the end (Garden Street).
• Currier House is on your left at the corner of Garden and Linnaean Street. Enter Currier House at 64 Linnaean Street.
From Points South of Boston
• Take Route 3 North from the intersection with Route 128.
• Take the exit for Storrow Drive-Cambridge. Follow Storrow Drive (also at certain spots called Soldiers Field Road), keeping to the right (along the Charles River), until the exit marked Harvard Square/Cambridge.
• Take a right and cross over the Charles River. You are now on JFK Street. Proceed straight through three sets of lights.

• Bear right after toll booth at end of exit ramp.
• Proceed straight ahead through the first set of lights, and turn left (before the bridge) onto Storrow Drive.
• Follow Storrow Drive (also at certain spots called Soldiers Field Road), keeping to the right (along the Charles River), until the exit marked Harvard Square/Cambridge.
