Mind, Brain and Education

Resources

MBE Learning

The Digital Anatomist Information System: Primarily targeted for those interested in biomedical research and clinical medicine; has some excellent brain images and illustrations.

The Learning Classroom: Theory Into Practice: A videocourse for K-12 teachers on the Annenberg/CPB Channel that explores learning theory.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Teaching Slide Set: Dozens of instructional slides about MRI-related issues made available by Marc Cohen at UCLA.

OECD/CERI Learning Sciences and Brain Research project:  Interactive website for teachers to inform them about brain research and an open forum on topics related to the brain and learning.

Workshop on the Analysis of Neural Data Analysis (WAND): A forum for graduate students, post-docs, and faculty in neuroscience to learn about statistical methods for the analysis of electrophysiological and neuroimaging data.

Publications Related to MBE

Neuroscience for Kids Newsletter: A newsletter for students and teachers which teaches about the brain and neuroscience.

On the Brain: A newsletter presenting advances and issues in neuroscience research as well as reviews of the current literature.

MBE Conferences and Organizations

Brain, Neuroscience and Education: A Special interest group of the American Education Research Association (AERA)

International Mind, Brain and Education Society: The mission of the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society (IMBES) is to facilitate cross-cultural collaboration in biology, education and the cognitive and developmental sciences.

The Jean Piaget Society: Established in 1970, has an international, interdisciplinary membership of scholars, teachers and researchers interested in exploring the nature of the developmental construction of human knowledge.

Learning and the Brain Conference: A conference for teachers and other education practitioners exploring ways to use brain research findings to improve behavior and learning in teens and children.

MBE at Other Universities

The Center for Neuroscience in Education, University of Cambridge, UK: Headed by Professor Usha Goswami and Dr. Denes Szucs (both psychologists), the main research goal of the Centre is to establish the basic parameters of brain development in the cognitive skills critical for reading and mathematics.

Neuroscience Center at Dartmouth:The Neuroscience Center at Dartmouth (NCD) seeks to educate and train highly qualified students for productive careers in translational neuroscience research and teaching through the completion of an MD/PhD or PhD degree.
