Fellowships & GrantsA number of need-based and merit-based awards are administered through the Financial Aid Office. These awards are generally tied to either the admissions application, the financial aid application or both, but generally do not require an additional application process. Financial Aid's Fellowship Area in 061 Longfellow Hall offers award applications and information on additional HGSE and external awards, and facilitates Fulbright and other fellowship application procedures. The HGSE External Fellowship Database provides extensive outside graduate funding information. An abbreviated listing (332KB pdf) of the database, organized by deadline, is available online. Individual consultations on search strategy are available. Appointments are encouraged, as office hours vary, but walk-in visitors are always welcome. To use the database, make inquiries, or arrange appointments, please call or e-mail Financial Aid at 617-495-3416; finaid@gse.harvard.edu. New Doctoral Funding Program Instituted in 2007-2008 Academic YearDean Kathleen McCartney announced in late 2006 that HGSE will guarantee that all doctoral students will receive full tuition and health fee funding through the first 3 years of their studies. We will offer standard multi-year fellowship packages to all D1s, D2s, and D3s who are not already receiving tuition support from other sources. The standard award will cover all tuition and health fees during the first three years of study; incoming D1s will continue to receive a stipend of at least $7,000 as they do today. In addition to this standard fellowship package, up to 25% of our incoming doctoral students will continue to be selected to receive the Harvard University Presidential Fellowship, an award offered to incoming students thoughout the University who demonstrate exceptional academic merit. HGSE Presidential Fellows receive full tuition and fee support for four years with stipend support in years one through three. |
