The School Leadership Program at Harvard proved to be a fantastic opportunity to learn from insightful, inspiring, and provocative HGSE faculty, as well as fellow students who brought a wealth of experience and ideas to the program. I found the dynamic atmosphere surrounding the program to be energizing; I felt challenged as never before.
The experience was transformative for me. To use a pop culture reference, I felt as though my coursework and internship revealed the education "Matrix." I began to see a far bigger, and far better detailed, picture of teaching, learning, and the importance of instructional leadership. Looking back on my year, I realize that not only did I begin the program without "the answers," but also that I didn't even know the questions to ask.
The School Leadership Program has given me the confidence to step into my new role as an assistant principal with the courage of my convictions and the tools and research to back them up. I learned how to be an effective leader of a community of educators, collaboratively solving dilemmas, measuring the effectiveness of our efforts, and ensuring equity and access to learning for all students.
Believe the hype--the School Leadership Program at HGSE deserves every accolade it receives.
