David Weiner worked as a teacher and literacy specialist at several schools before attending HGSE. Then, with his Ed.M. from HGSE's School Leadership Program, David settled into his current position as principal at Alvarado Elementary School in San Francisco. He describes his main goal as "creating an exciting learning environment for both students and teachers. I spend as little time in my office as possible during the school day because I want to be visiting the classrooms." David credits HGSE with teaching him the role he should play as a school principal. "It's come a long way from being mostly administrative," says David. "A principal should be in the classroom almost all the time to focus on the best ways to educate students."
