Access to the Library / HGSE Alumni Library Card

After you graduate, your privileges at Gutman Library continue. HGSE alumni may continue to use the library and borrow materials from the collection. To apply for a HGSE Alumni Library Card, you may fill out the Online Registration Form or fill out the registration form in person at Gutman Library Circulation desk. To update your address, please use the online Change of Address Form.

Electronic Resources

At Gutman Library

While visiting the library, HGSE graduates have full access to all of the electronic resources available on site. These include education and psychology indexes (ERIC, Education Abstracts, PsycINFO), full-text access to legal and news sources (LexisNexis Academic, Factiva), as well as thousands of other research databases and electronic journals available through the E-Research @ Harvard Libraries website. Our CD-Rom collection includes International ERIC.

Off-Site Access to Electronic Resources

As part of our ongoing effort to support the work of HGSE alumni engaged in educational research and practice, Gutman Library and HGSE Alumni Services offer interested alumni access to selected electronic education resources. These resources include ERIC, Education Abstracts, Academic Search Alumni Edition, EBSCO Animals, Masterfile Premier, and Primary Search. To sign up for access and to receive a password, please complete the Alumni Access form. Thanks for your interest! Already registered? Access resources now.

Electronic Resources available through Public Libraries

Many public libraries throughout the country provide access to electronic resources within their library and remotely. Contact your local public library for more information or check their website. Most Massachusetts residents can access a number of online databases through the Massachusetts Library Information Network, using the barcode on their public library card.

Gutman Library Website

The Gutman website is designed with the information needs of the HGSE community in mind. Many of the resources on this site, including the Harvard University Library's HOLLIS Catalog, and Gutman's Web Links to hundreds of resources of interest to educators, are available to alumni. Remote use of databases available through the E-Research @ Harvard Libraries site is restricted to current faculty, students and staff due to Harvard's licensing agreements with the database providers (these databases are marked "Harvard ID and PIN required"). Check out or websites for Educators for links to unrestricted versions of ERIC.
