Help Us Learn More About Complementary Learning!
Harvard Family Research Project is leading the national conversation about
complementary learningthe idea that schools can't do it alone and
that children need access to a network of supports for learning and development.
Complementary learning systems intentionally link nonschool supports with each
other and with schools to better ensure that all children have the skills they
need from birth through adulthood.
As part of our ongoing efforts to track and document complementary learning
initiatives, we invite you to share examples from your communities and elsewhere.
These examples will inform several projects, including a documentation project
and future issues of our Evaluation Exchange periodical. We are looking
for initiatives that:
- Provide connected, comprehensive systems of support for children's learning
and development
- Link two or more institutions, such as schools, after school programs,
families, early childhood programs, health and social services, and community-based
resources such as libraries and museums
- Occur at any scale and scope, including city-wide, neighborhood-wide, and
state-wide
