A Letter From the Author
Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Family Members,
Tomasito's Mother Comes to School is a story about how one family gets
involved in their child's school. The story of Tomasito and his family is based
on some of the experiences of a real family.
This storybook can help your family learn more about ways to communicate with
your child's teacher and participate at your child's school. Being involved
at school is one important way you can help your child to learn and grow. When
parents get involved at school, teachers are able to teach children better,
and parents are able to help children learn more at home.
This storybook contains Tomasito's story, information for parents, and questions
to ask your child.
First, I encourage you to read Tomasito's story with your child.
After you read the story together, you will find some special information just
for parents and other adult family members. This information will tell you more
about family involvement in education.
When you have finished reading the story and parent information, I hope that
you will have a conversation with your child about getting involved at his or
her school. You can use the questions at the end for this conversation.
Enjoy the story of Tomasito! I hope it will inspire you with new ideas about
ways to partner with your child's school to help your child succeed in school.
Sincerely,
Ellen Mayer
