IX European Congress of Psychology
Granada, Spain

The Granada Congress will be both European and global, both with regard to the themes of the Congress and the participation from all over the world. The Congress is co-sponsored by the world psychology organisations IAAP (International Association of Applied Psychology) and IUPsyS (International Union of Psychological Science).

An important aspect of the Congress will be linking science with profession. Unlike many other professions, psychology is a profession that has grown out of science; it emerged from science and continues to develop side by side with it. The success and credibility of psychology as a profession relies greatly on the close link between scientific research and practical application.

The 8th UKFIET Oxford International Conference on Education and Development: Learning and Livelihood
Oxford , UK

The UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) has suggested Learning and Livelihood as the theme of the 8th Oxford Conference. Taking livelihood holistically, the theme allows us to explore how learning enhances individual potential across the life span, and the well-being of families, communities and societies, in different parts of the world.

It invites analysis of old and new approaches to education and training and their relevance to professional, workplace and labour market expectations.

It creates a space for comparing the influence of values and purposes of public, private and civil society investment in learning on the later use of human capacities. With decreasing job stability, reduced social protection and unprecedented levels of migration and conflict, it is urgent to consider how learning interacts with respect for human rights, social responsibility and environmental security.

It is also important to examine how learning nurtures our spiritual and expressive identities, individually and collectively. Above all, there is the question as to how we as learners, teachers, researchers, policy makers and other practitioners respond to these issues, and their implications for what we ourselves do.

11/16-11/18 6th International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN) Asian Regional Conference
Singapore

Child protection work has evolved from humble beginnings to the present global stature that it now commands. While some countries are more advanced in this area of work, others are just beginning to become involved. Child abuse and neglect prevention is and will continue to be a challenge for many, both in the developed and developing countries. Despite the varied focus as a result of the societal make-up of the different countries, there are overlapping concerns. In keeping the belief that there are similarities underneath the differences, we have chosen to draw on Asian insights with a cross continental exchange of experiences. Hence the theme "Protecting Children: Asian Perspectives and Beyond".

LASA 2006 International Congress: De-Centering Latin American Studies
San Juan , Puerto Rico (Latin American Studies Association)

Congress Theme: From its inception, LASA has proven to be a vital forum for scholarly collaboration and intellectual exchange among U.S.-based Latin Americanists and colleagues in Latin America , the Caribbean , and around the globe. Yet despite our growing international membership (currently nearing 30 percent), Latin American Studies, as an institutionalized knowledge formation, remains largely centered in the US and LASA is arguably still a "US-centric" area studies association. The 2006 Congress seeks to further the "de-centering" and transnationalization of the field by featuring sessions on how the study of Latin America , the Caribbean and its peoples is practiced in distinctive ways within the US (e.g., Latin American/Latina-o Studies), in Latin America and the Caribbean , and in other regions of the world. The Congress would hope to build on the wide variety of approaches and epistemologies that emerge from multiple positionalities and diverse geopolitical locations in collectively (re)imagining Latin American Studies for the 21st century.
